Hello everyone, I hope you’re all well and enjoying the summer. I’m sure that like me you’re worried that it will be over before we know it. Personally I’ve got my fingers crossed for an Indian summer. I love the idea that it will be scorching hot on Boxing Day and we’ll all be doing the Boxing Day Dip in the sunshine for a change, but I think that’s just wishful thinking.
On a different topic, we’re working hard at ‘The History Project’ on a number of tasks that benefit our amazing local community. We’re in the process of organising completely free school experiences to schools across the Dover District. We are also offering our educational packages to social groups like the Sea Cadets and Scouts.
We feel that the last year and a half has been tough for us all, but kids have suffered more than anyone. We really want to make up for the sacrifice they’ve made. It’s not just about the kids though, we’re also delivering free walking tours to social groups like East Kent Carers amongst others. If you run a group or if you’re a school teacher and you have a group that would benefit then please feel free to get in touch.
We’re also busy promoting Deal’s street theatre show ‘Dastardly Deal’ which is performed by an amazing troupe of actors from a local company ‘Reshake Theatre’. If you haven’t experienced it already then jump online and book a ticket, you will not regret it. It will have you cackling in the street. The play is set in the late 18th century and features a host of hilarious characters who will take you on a romp through Middle Street. We can even offer you a discount on the ticket price, simply use the code dastdisc20 to receive 20% off.
Then we have our ‘Community History Hub’ above Deal Station, and we’re delighted to display our very first exhibition. One of the things I love most about running a community organisation is working alongside amazing people and other amazing organisations. One of these is the Goodwin Sands Conservation Trust who have kindly loaned us a collection of shipwrecked treasure. So come on down and take a look me hearties. The entrance is actually on platform one, you can't miss us.
Finally I would like to thank all of my amazing sponsors, because without your community minded spirit, and your willingness to re-invest some of your profits back into the community the great work we do simply wouldn’t be possible. So Thank You.
